Spring in Surfside Beach takes place between March and May, with temperatures gradually warming up the closer it gets to summer. 

The average temperature ranges between 60s and 80s Fahrenheit, and you’ll get to enjoy spring classics like the blooming flowers. Rain precipitation is also expected, but these are brief and almost always followed by sunny skies.

Spring Activities 

Spring also brings sunny days filled with events and activities in and around Surfside Beach. Visit the Brookgreen Gardens, a botanical paradise with 9 thousand acres of live oak and blooming flowers. It also has a butterfly garden and is home to the Lowcounty Zoo

This temperate season is also the perfect time to go on a Nature and Wildlife Boat tour. It’s a great family activity where you’ll get to explore the flora and fauna on the Waccamaw River.

Summer is the peak tourist season in Surfside Beach between June and August. Temperatures are also high as these are the hottest months, offering plenty of sunshine to enjoy during your beach and surf days. 

The average high-temperature ranges between the 80s to the low 90s Fahrenheit. 

Summer Activities

During the summer is when you’ll get to enjoy all the best things to do in Surfside Beach.

It is the ideal time to enjoy watersports and outdoor activities, including swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, surfing, and going on wildlife and nature tours. Beach days are a given – especially if you have it at your backdoor as you would with Wander accommodations. 

While you’re there, take a surf lesson; Eternal Wave Surf Shop offers a great introduction for beginners! Or explore the coastline by jet ski, paddleboard, or kayak tour. 

Summer is also a great time to book a guided fishing tour. You’ll catch anything from flounder and mahi mahi to red fish and cobia, depending on where you go.

The fall season brings cooler temperatures between September and November. The crowds become fewer in Surfside Beach, with temperatures ranging between the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit. October is the driest month, with just seven days of rain on average.

Fall is also a good time to try different types of outdoor activities, such as golfing (or mini golf for families or big groups!) Play a round of golf at one of the many golf courses in the area, such as The Dunes Golf & Beach Club, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, or the True Blue Golf Club

Winter months in Surfside Beach are mild compared to other parts of the country and take place between December and February. Daytime temperatures vary from the low 50s to the 60s Fahrenheit, while evenings tend to be the coldest. 

While it may not be your typical beach weather, winter brings a pleasant time for those who wish to have a quieter getaway away from the city. 

Winter Activities

Winter is the perfect time to take a stroll on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, visit the local museums, or check out the local brewhouses. You can also dine and enjoy live music at the Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk, a waterfront boardwalk filled with restaurants, bars, and live music events.

Seasonal Crowds in Surfside Beach vs. Myrtle Beach

Surfside Beach is only a 15-minute car ride from Myrtle Beach and about one hour north of Charleston. Despite how close Surfside and Myrtle Beach are to each other, the crowd fluctuations are noticeable. 

Surfside Beach is more family-friendly and a residential area with many homes and colorful cottages by the beach. The small town is even known as “The Family Beach.” You’ll notice the beach crowds at Surfside are more sparse and laid back than Myrtle Beach while still being within close distance to enjoy the nightlife and places to explore.
