The trees close in around you on the drive up Highway 26, and by the time you turn into Timberline Rim, the mountain feels close enough to touch. 2nd Chair Inn is a 4 bedroom, 2 bath basecamp in Rhododendron, Oregon, built for the group that skis all day, grills all night, and lets the dog off the leash the second the fenced yard gate closes behind them.
Property Overview
Some cabins ask you to be careful. 2nd Chair Inn asks you to unpack, spread out, and stay a while. Tucked among tall evergreens in the Timberline Rim community, this 4 bedroom, 2 bath home sleeps up to 8 across real bedrooms, not couches and air mattresses, with a bunk room the kids will claim before you finish unloading the car.
Walk in and the layout does the work: a full kitchen ready for pancake mornings and chili nights, comfortable living space for board games and lazy afternoons, and a covered outdoor seating area where the BBQ runs rain or shine. Out back, a fully fenced yard means the dogs get to be dogs, off leash, without anyone standing guard at the property line.
This is Mt. Hood living the way locals do it: ski Timberline in the morning, grill on the deck by 4, and fall asleep to the kind of quiet you only get under a canopy of Douglas fir.

A Few Words From Past Guests
"We enjoyed our stay at Chad's place. The rooms were comfortable and ample, we enjoyed being able to grill and eat outside, communicating with Chad was friendly, helpful, and quick. Everything worked well in the kitchen and we had what we needed... The location made it easy to visit Timberline Lodge, and Trillium Lake (about 30 min to each). Also about 30 minutes to the Bald Mountain/Muddy Fork trail (about 6 miles/moderate/stunning!) We loved the coffee we picked up at nearby Mt. Hood Coffee Roasters. Great trip, would stay again." — Jodi, group trip
"Loved the cabin! All the decor was so adorable and the place was so welcoming. The sheets smelled amazing and the house was so clean. When we reached out to the host, he was very quick to respond and help. The outdoor dining area is great for families. And dog friendly is always a plus." — Alison, stayed with a pet
Perfect For
Ski and snowboard crews who want to be 20 to 25 minutes from Timberline and Mt. Hood Meadows without paying resort-town prices. Multi-generational family reunions who need real bedrooms for real sleep, not sofa beds stacked in a loft. Dog owners who have given up on "pet-friendly" listings that still mean a leash and a prayer, because this yard is actually fenced. Summer groups chasing pool days and porch dinners who want seasonal access to the Timberline Rim community pool and tennis courts built in.
☆☆ BEDROOMS & BATHROOMS ☆☆
Four bedrooms, five beds, room for eight to spread out and actually sleep.
Bedroom 1 has a king bed. Bedrooms 2 and 3 each have a queen. Bedroom 4 is the family-friendly bunk room, the one the kids will fight over, built specifically for little ones tagging along on the trip. There are two twin beds in the bunk room.
Two full bathrooms serve the home, including a bathtub for washing off a day of trail dust or ski wax. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash are supplied at the house.
☆☆ KITCHEN ☆☆
This is a kitchen built to feed a full house. Prep breakfast before a ski day, build sandwiches for the trail, or cook a real dinner after a long day outside, all without waiting your turn at the stove.
☆☆ LIVING ROOM ☆☆
The gathering space at 2nd Chair Inn is where the day actually ends. Board games come out, the TV goes on for the group who wants to catch the game, and the whole crew reconvenes after a day split between the slopes, the trail, and the river.
Wifi is included throughout the home, so the crew that needs to check in with work or just wants to post the ski photos can do it without hunting for a signal.
☆☆ OUTSIDE SPACE ☆☆
This is where 2nd Chair Inn earns its name. A covered outdoor seating area keeps the BBQ running whether the mountain is throwing sun or snow, and the fully fenced backyard means the dogs get real off-leash time, not a tethered patch of grass. It is the detail every dog-owning guest asks about first, and here the answer is yes.
Beyond the yard, guests get seasonal access to the Timberline Rim community pool (typically open Memorial Day through Labor Day, with pool toys provided) and the neighborhood tennis courts, all included, no day pass required.

Why Choose This Home
Most Mt. Hood cabins ask you to choose between space and privacy. 2nd Chair Inn does not. Four real bedrooms mean nobody draws the short straw on the couch, a fenced yard means the dog gets true off-leash freedom in a neighborhood where that is rare, and included access to the community pool and tennis courts adds resort-style extras without a resort price tag. Add a location 20 to 25 minutes from Timberline and Mt. Hood Meadows and 10 minutes from Welches for groceries and dinner, and this is the rare Mt. Hood rental built for the whole crew, four-legged members included.
