Locals here are a mix of outdoor lovers, long-time residents, families and retirees who head down to Evergreen Lake or into the woods for hikes and wildlife sightings on most days; you’ll often see deer or even elk grazing nearby and neighbors chatting at the coffee shop or lake trailhead. The community is known for being safe, quiet, and tightly knit, with low crime and people who treat this as more of a refuge than a quick weekend stop, so it’s normal to wave at folks walking dogs or heading out for a morning trail run. There’s a distinct sense of small-town charm here — friendly faces, outdoor activity at every turn, and a genuine appreciation for living in the Colorado mountains.
