With three king bedrooms and a separate lounge, this striking modern retreat welcomes up to eight guests who want as much from the house as they do from the desert.

Onyx House makes the most of its remarkable surroundings. Its long, low silhouette sits against a rugged mountainside, while expansive glass brings the landscape into nearly every shared space. Inside, a striking black-and-white palette, sculptural lighting and gallery-style artwork create an atmosphere that's sophisticated without feeling formal. The open layout makes it easy to spend time together, whether you're cooking a leisurely dinner, settling in beside the fire or opening the sliding doors to let the afternoon unfold outdoors. And with a second lounge tucked away from the main living area, there's plenty of room for everyone to find their own pace.

With a mountainside rising behind the house and the valley stretching out ahead, the outdoors is every bit as inviting as the interior. Spend the morning exploring the boulders accessible directly from the property, then come home to a patio made for doing very little at all.

The saltwater pool sits alongside the house's expansive glass walls, surrounded by eight loungers where you can stretch out with a book, enjoy the sunshine or spend the afternoon moving between the water and the oversized saltwater hot tub. The pool can be heated for an additional fee during cooler months, while hot tub heating is always complimentary.

An outdoor dining table for eight makes meals outside an easy part of the day, whether it's a relaxed lunch after a hike or dinner as the desert begins to cool. Nearby, the large fire pit offers another gathering place, conveniently positioned beside the entertainment lounge so you can even catch what's playing on the big screen from outside.

The surrounding grounds retain their natural desert character, with boulders, native vegetation and open views of the mountains. The property is not fully fenced, allowing the landscape to feel connected to the wilderness beyond.

-Yoga Deck-
For a quieter start to the day, head to the dedicated yoga deck overlooking the surrounding mountains. There's enough room for 12 mats, with three provided, making it equally suited to a solo morning stretch or a group session with friends.

The setting is particularly special in the early morning, when the light reaches the rocky hills and the desert is at its quietest. Guests interested in a guided practice can ask for recommendations for a yoga instructor who can come directly to the house.

-Living Area-
The main living area feels almost like an extension of the landscape. Floor-to-ceiling glass wraps around the room, drawing your attention from the carefully chosen furnishings to the mountains beyond. A crisp white sofa, leather sling seating and statement lighting create a comfortable place to settle in without competing with the view.

At the heart of the room, a suspended wood-burning fireplace adds warmth and character when temperatures dip. Light a fire, put on some music through the Sonos speaker and enjoy an evening together after a day outside. Guests should bring their own firewood, which can be purchased in town.

The living room flows naturally into the dining area and kitchen, so conversation doesn't have to stop when someone starts preparing dinner. Sliding glass doors also connect the interior directly to the pool deck, making it easy to move between indoor and outdoor living throughout the day.

-Separate Entertainment Lounge-
One of the home's most appealing features is its second lounge, a dedicated space for movie nights, drinks with friends or simply spreading out when everyone wants to do something different.

A dramatic black accent wall, contemporary halo lighting and comfortable sofas give the room its own personality, while the 80-inch television makes it an inviting spot for a movie after dark. A built-in bar with a separate wine and beer fridge keeps refreshments close at hand.

Large doors open toward the desert views on one side and the outdoor fire pit on the other, so the room can feel connected to the evening outside or serve as a cozy retreat of its own.

The lounge also includes a queen pull-out sofa that accommodates two additional guests, bringing the home's total sleeping capacity to eight.

Whether you're preparing a full dinner for the group or keeping things simple before a day of exploring, the kitchen makes cooking together feel like part of the getaway.

Clean white cabinetry, stone countertops and a generous island with leather stools give the space a sleek, contemporary feel. Large windows bring in natural light and mountain views, while the open design keeps whoever is cooking connected to the rest of the group.

The kitchen comes fully stocked with an electric stove and oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, cookware, baking sheets, mixing bowls, toaster and kettle. Coffee lovers can choose between a French press and drip coffee maker, with a grinder provided for fresh beans.

The indoor dining table seats eight beside the glass, offering a beautiful backdrop for shared meals. When the weather invites you outside, a second table for eight awaits on the patio. From casual breakfasts to long dinners with friends, there's space to enjoy meals without feeling rushed.

-Bedrooms and Bathrooms-
After a full day in the desert, three thoughtfully appointed king bedrooms offer a peaceful place to recharge. Each features a king-size gel memory foam mattress, fresh white linens and bedside pendant lighting, with the home's clean, modern design carrying through to the sleeping spaces.

Primary Suite: The primary bedroom offers an especially convenient connection to the outdoors, with its own private entrance leading directly toward the pool. Slip outside for a morning swim before the rest of the house wakes up, or enjoy a quiet evening with the bedroom's smart TV. The suite also includes its own bathroom.

Guest Bedroom 2: A comfortable king bedroom with black-and-white artwork, bedside pendant lights and a spacious closet for unpacking and settling in.

Guest Bedroom 3: Another inviting king bedroom, distinguished by a sliding glass door that opens directly outside, bringing natural light and an easy connection to the desert surroundings.

Additional Sleeping: The separate entertainment lounge includes a queen pull-out sofa for two guests, allowing the home to accommodate up to eight people across four beds.

The home has two bathrooms, including the primary ensuite and a second bathroom accessed from the hallway. Both feature clean white finishes, contemporary floating vanities and walk-in showers.

For a little extra comfort, the bathrooms are stocked with cruelty-free NATIVE shampoo, conditioner and body wash, along with Mrs. Meyer's hand soap. Each guest is provided with one bath towel and one pool towel for their stay.

-Surrounding Area-
Joshua Tree National Park and the town of Joshua Tree bring hiking, climbing, galleries, cafés and live music. Closer to home, the property has direct hiking access to hundreds of acres of boulders, so a morning hike can start right outside the door. The desert here is quiet and open, with wide skies for stargazing.

The entire house and property are yours to enjoy! Please note that a few supply closets stay locked to store rental supplies.

A personal vehicle is necessary to get around in this area - rideshare apps are not guaranteed.

The Onyx House is reached by dirt road, so please take it slow.

-Parties and Gatherings-
Parties and large gatherings are strictly prohibited at this house. Failure to follow this policy will result in a $500 fine.

-House-Specific Rules-
► No external speakers allowed.
► Please shower before and after using the hot tub and pool, and rinse off oils and lotions before entering. No pets of any kind in the hot tub or pool, and no alcohol near the water. Please do not stand or sit on the covers, and keep the covers on and secured after use; they are for insulation only. Please do not add hot water from the stove, as it will damage the hot tub. Children must be supervised at all times.

-Pool Heating Fee-
Should you wish to have the pool heated to 85 degrees, please notify us in advance of your arrival, as there will be a supplemental charge per day for this service due to high fuel costs in this area. If you'd like the pool heated for multiple days, we ask that days be consecutive to conserve energy, thank you! Pool heating is not usually necessary May through September. Please note that we will need at least 24 hours' notice to heat the pool.

During the winter months, please be aware that colder outdoor temperatures may cause the pool to feel cooler than its maintained temperature of 85°F. We kindly ask that you ensure this temperature meets your comfort level before submitting a request, as refunds cannot be issued on this basis.

-Hot Tub Heating-
No fee to heat the hot tub! Pool heating is available from 10am to 8pm.

-Pool and Hot Tub Service-
The pool and hot tub are serviced Tuesdays and Fridays. Our pool technician will go directly to the backyard and be in and out quickly. A skimmer is kept behind the house if you need to clear any bugs or leaves during your stay.

-Pet Policy-
We welcome your dogs! There is a $100 per dog per stay fee, limit of 2 dogs maximum. Please note on your reservation how many dogs you are bringing. There is an unauthorized pet fee of $500. Please use the provided dog sheets before allowing your dogs on any furniture. Cats and other pets are not allowed due to the owner's severe allergy.

-Wildlife & Safety-
The desert landscape is teeming with wildlife and natural beauty, offering a unique connection to nature, but it's important to be mindful of the creatures and plants that call this area home. Guests may encounter a variety of wildlife during their stay, and while direct encounters with dangerous animals like coyotes, snakes, scorpions, bobcats, mountain lions and other desert dwellers are rare, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and to keep a safe distance from these creatures when spotted. Additionally, the desert is dotted with sharp cacti and other spiky plants. For your safety, always supervise children, pets, ESAs, and service animals while outdoors. Dogs should remain on a leash at all times and be watched closely while outdoors, as they can wander into potentially unsafe situations with wildlife or plants. By booking this property, guests acknowledge the potential for wildlife encounters and assume responsibility for their safety and the safety of their group. By respecting the local environment and staying aware, you can fully enjoy the magic of the desert.

-Security Camera-
For your security, there are exterior cameras located at the front door and the yoga room, which monitor vehicles and occupancy. Noise monitors are also installed. There are no cameras inside the home or facing any private areas, including the pool and hot tub areas.

-Cell Service-
Cell phone coverage is available at the property, though reception can vary by carrier.

-Damage Waiver Policy-
Each reservation requires either a refundable security deposit or a non-refundable damage waiver.
