The island is home to a variety of wildlife, offering wonderful opportunities for nature watching from a distance. Guests should use caution and avoid approaching or feeding any animals.
You may see deer and coyotes on the island. Coyotes generally avoid people, but guests should not leave small children or pets unattended outdoors at night.
Sharks have been sighted throughout the Cape and Islands, as is common in the region. There have been no reported shark attacks on Cuttyhunk, but guests should always follow local beach advisories and posted signage.
As with many areas in Massachusetts, ticks and mosquitoes are present, especially in warmer months. We recommend using insect repellent and performing regular tick checks after spending time outdoors.
To help keep wildlife at a safe distance, please avoid leaving food outside (including residue on grills or in fire pits), secure all trash properly, and keep doors and windows closed when not in use.
We kindly ask that you refrain from hosting parties or creating excessive noise during your stay, as we strive to maintain a peaceful environment for both our guests and neighbors. Amplified outdoor sounds are strictly prohibited.
