Lake Tahoe is a freshwater lake that sits on the California Nevada border in the Sierra Nevada region of the United States. It was formed nearly two million years ago during the Ice Age. It is known for its clear water and panoramic views of the mountains which attract nature lovers from all over the world.

Although the lake straddles warm Nevada and California, the Sierra Nevada area offers all four seasons of excitement. During the winter, temperatures can get as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit and they can rise as high as 80 during the summer.

The diversity in temperatures makes for a variety of things to do year-round, o you can visit Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter and always have a different experience. This article will provide suggestions for what you can do when you visit Lake Tahoe year-round.

Spring 

During the spring, Lake Tahoe sees a rebirth. The flowers start peeking out from the ground and there is a joyous feeling in the air. It’s the perfect time to engage in the following activities.

Mountain Biking

During the springtime, Lake Tahoe is the perfect destination for mountain biking. Tahoe South is designated as a bike-friendly community, so there are plenty of bikes available for rent and lots of paths to take them on. For an exhilarating experience, head out to Saxon’s Creek and find out why it’s nicknamed Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. Alternatively, you can have a leisurely bike ride on the path by Truckee River, Lake Tahoe’s sole outlet.

Take a Cruise

Spring is a terrific time to take a cruise to Emerald Bay, the only inlet to Lake Tahoe. While on the water, you can take in a view of the majestic mountains. Once you arrive at the park, you can enjoy nature or check out its many landmarks including Fannette Island, home to Mrs. Knight’s Tea House. and the majestic Vikingsholm Castle.

If you enjoy fishing, Lake Tahoe is the place to do it. There are many fishing charters on the south shore and experienced captains can tell you exactly where to dip your lines. The rivers and streams that flow into Lake Tahoe are teeming with fish, so you are sure to get a magnificent catch for dinner.

Music lovers rejoice. The South Lake Tahoe Summer Concerts brings a variety of world-class musicians to the area. Harvey’s Summer Concert Series is known for featuring Grammy award-winning entertainers. The Live at the Lakeview Music Series has musicians jamming tunes right on the beach.

Go to the Beach

Speaking of the beach…what better way to enjoy a summer day than to laze on one of Lake Tahoe’s immaculate beaches? They offer fine-grain sand and water clearer than you may imagine possible.

The cooler temperatures and terrific colors make hiking an ideal Lake Tahoe fall activity. Get on some comfortable shoes and check out the trails at:

While many Lake Tahoe golf courses will close after summer ends, you can still find plenty of disc golf courses open. The activity involves throwing a disc at a target with rules that are similar to golf. It’s an ideal frisbee and golf combination!

Horseback Riding

Nature lovers will enjoy a horseback riding adventure. They are a great way to experience the serenity of the surrounding area. Various businesses offer 1 or 2 hour rides that take you through crystal clear lakes and majestic mountain areas. Some offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner rides with picnic-style meals.

Winter

During the winter, Lake Tahoe sees its share of snowfall. This makes it an ideal destination for engaging in winter activities. Here are some you won’t want to miss out on.

Skiing

Lake Tahoe is the perfect place to enjoy a ski vacation. Maximum winter temperatures get up to a brisk yet comfortable 45 degrees Fahrenheit. The area offers fantastic views, exciting slopes, and some of the most famous ski resorts in the world.

Snowshoeing

If you’d rather keep things closer to ground level, snowshoeing may be a more suitable activity. You can go out for some terrific exercise and take in the magnificent views blanketed in white.
